Chapter 11
1. What are the legal considerations of which a teacher must be aware when implementing technologies in the classroom? Explain each consideration and the step(s) you would take in your own classroom to ensure that you do not violate the law.
Copyright laws and acceptable usage policies comes to mind when discussing the legal considerations of implementing technology in the classroom. The first thing a teacher can do is learn what is acceptable or not and learn the school’s policies. I would first confer with the technology person at my school to determine if the technology I want to implement is safe and supported by the school district. Then I would then further research if it is acceptable elsewhere and how it is used in other classrooms in other areas. Just in case if an issue comes up I will research about the technology with actions to consider. I will also have to remember to provide equal access to all the students without prejudice no matter their limitations that’s why effectively researching new tools are so important so that you have an understanding of it before implementation.
This week we had to complete two assignments using Thinglink and Scoop.it. This was a fun but informative assignment. Thinglink is an interactive tool kind of like Globster that allows you to add links to a picture. It would be an awesome tool to use for students. You can send the image and have all of your desired links already present for them to explore. Students can also create their own Thinglinks from a given topic showing the websites they find on the topic. That could be a good time to discuss good and bad websites and resources. Thinglink and Scoop.it are definitely tools I plan to explore more of in the future to find out how to utilize them in the library.
