This week we had to create a podcast and a movie. The podcast was fairly easy for me. I was happy to see how easy Vocaroo was to use. It’s a web-based application so you don’t need to download any software so it can be access from anywhere there is Internet. Podcast are like radio shows that contain material that can be downloaded and listened to whenever. Podcast would be good for directions and instructions. Wouldn’t it be easy to listen to someone tell you step by step how to build a bookcase rather then having to stop and refer to the written notes. Podcast allows for emotions and tones of the voice to better relay a message. Teachers can create podcasts on different topics and have it on a webpage for students to access if necessary. Technology does a lot of making things convenient and easy for us. Podcast is a wonderful invention that fosters that idea.
The movie was hard for me to accomplish because I have a glitch in my iMovie and it is the summer time so I don’t have access to a work computer. I did create a PowerPoint and voice recorded the slides. I got it to upload to YouTube but it did not have the audio. This was good experience for me because now I see that technology will fail from time to time but you have to have a backup plan. I tried to create another option by using QuickTime but it didn’t get the audio either. However creating movies are still an effective practice in education. It gives a visual to a lesson that is being taught. You can get pictures from anywhere and add audio about a topic or you could demonstrate a topic. I would love to in the future record common library practices and upload it to my website for my library. No only can recording a topic help a student because they can refer to it whenever, students can also create movies to demonstrate their understanding.
